THE SHRINE HAS A NEW RECTOR
Bishop Daniel Turley O.S.A. announced as New Rector of the National Shrine of St. Frances Cabrini

Here is the announcement made in our recent newstetter by Executive Director, Laurie Halaska:
On Sunday, July 13th the Shrine community not only celebrated the 175th Birthday of Mother Cabrini, but also announced the appointment of Bishop Daniel Turley, O.S.A. as the Shrine’s new rector.
Bishop Turley, a Chicago native who led the Diocese of Chulucanas, Peru for twenty years, has been a regular presider at the Shrine over the last year. After Board members met with Bishop Turley last spring, they voted unanimously to appoint him as Rector of the Shrine. The General Council of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus eagerly affirmed the Board’s decision, and in late June Cardinal Blase Cupich, Archbishop of Chicago, officially appointed Bishop Turley as Rector, effective July 1,2025.
Kathleen Sprows Cummings, Professor of History at the University of Notre Dame and Chair of the Board of Directors at the National Shrine of St. Frances Cabrini, announced Bishop Turley’s appointment at the beginning of the July 13th Sunday liturgy. “Bishop Turley has a missionary’s heart, a warm pastoral presence, and a sincere desire to amplify the charism of the MSCs and love for the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Chicago and beyond.” Cummings said. “The Board could not be more elated to have Bishop Turley join us as the pastoral shepherd of this sacred place.”
Bishop Turley will be officially installed as the Rector of the Shrine by Chicago’s Auxiliary Bishop John Siemianowski at a liturgy later this year.

Spiritual Center & Architectural Masterpiece in the Heart of Lincoln Park
Historically, this site was home to Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini, a missionary woman religious, who helped shape America's social and health care system in the early twentieth century.
Spiritually, it is the only National Shrine dedicated to the first American Citizen Saint and the Patron of Immigrants and Heath Care Workers in the Catholic Church.
Architecturally, the Shrine's Chapel is the masterpiece of world-renowned architect, Leonard Gliatto, who felt that this was his crowning achievement in America.
